Jobs For Morphett

The electorate of Morphett has one of the largest industries in South Australia!

We talk about Holden, we talk about mines and we talk about agriculture, but there is also the experience industry, which involves tourism, sport and recreation, performing and visual arts. Within walking distance of my office in Byron Street, Glenelg, I have over 100 restaurants and cafes and some of the best accommodation in the world.

Morphettville Racecourse is just up the road, and do not forget that horseracing in South Australia employs 2,500 people. They are real jobs, good jobs.

Fear and Greed

Member for Morphett, Dr Duncan McFetridge, has struck a deal with Premier Jay Weatherill that, if the $ 90 million bank tax is passed, then $100 million worth of remissions on the Emergency Services Levy will be put back in place.  This will benefit more than 500,000 households, 40,000 farms and 30,000 businesses.

It will be a $100 million injection into the economy to help struggling families, farmers and businesses cope with the highest electricity prices in the world.  It will still allow the $200 million jobs package to go ahead to help reduce the highest unemployment in the nation.

Call to Cancel Commuter Chaos

The Independent Member for Morphett, Duncan McFetridge, is calling on the Department of Transport to stop the peak hour bus lane trial on Anzac Highway due to increased traffic gridlock.

“The State Government started a six month trial of set back bus lanes between South Road and Greenhill Road as an attempt to move traffic more quickly in the morning peak hour.  Unfortunately the trial has produced more chaos than calmness”, said Dr McFetridge.

“I have been getting a lot of complaints since the trial started about the increased traffic gridlock and driver frustration".
