Birdman Rally

The Birdman Rally is a historic event along Glenelg’s foreshore.  For those of you who don’t know, the Birdman Rally was run through the late 1970’s to the early 1980’s.  The event involved competitors jumping off Glenelg Jetty, in their most creative, innovative and individual flying device.  Some competitors jumped off in home-made aeroplanes, hang gliders and there was the occasional wacky ‘bird’ costume.  The attraction of the event was as much about the inventive crafts created, as it was the distance travelled.

The event would attract thousands to Glenelg every year; it was a family day and an excellent day for business.  It was sad to see the event lost, but it was never forgotten and that is why I am bringing back the Birdman Rally.  We have already begun to get the event up and running, we have exciting stake holders and sponsors ready to get on board.  The people around Adelaide and Glenelg have been very supportive to bring back the Birdman Rally, however we still need your support to continue.

I would love to know your stories from the past and any exciting suggestions you have for the future of the Birdman Rally.
