King Street Bridge

I have received numerous letters, phone calls, emails and faxes from concerned residents regarding funding for the repair or replacement of the King Street Bridge. Whilst bus services have now been reinstated under revised load limits, I am still actively pursuing options with the Transport Minister and City of Holdfast Bay in an effort to find a solution to this problem.

The City of Holdfast Bay draft Annual Business Plan for 2008/09 did not include any provision for the repair or replacement of the King Street Bridge. At the time, I urged residents to make a submission to Council requesting the replacement of King Street Bridge be included in the business plan, with provision for funding not being contingent on Federal or State Government subsidies which don't appear to be forthcoming.

The City of Holdfast Bay made a submission to Infrastructure Australia in a document titled "Bridge Replacement: 'King Street Bridge'.  A copy of the submission can be viewed here.

The City of Holdfast Bay announced in December 2008 that it has been successful in making it onto the Infrastructure Australia shortlist with its bid for funds to replace the King Street Bridge.

Hopefully the submission will be viewed favourably by the Federal Government and I encourage you to lobby the local Federal Member of Parliament, Steve Georganas MHR to support the Council's submission.
