Do Not Call Register

The Do Not Call Register was launched in May 2007 in response to community concerns about the growth of unsolicited telemarketing calls.  May 2010 marked the third anniversary of the register, when up to 1.04 million numbers were due to expire and be automatically removed from the register, unless they were re-registered prior to that date.

The Do Not Call Register has recently been expanded to allow people to register fax numbers and numbers used by emergency services and government bodies.  Amendments to legislation, which took effect on 30 May 2010, also mean that registrations will now last for five years.

There are currently more than 4.9 million home, mobile and VoIP numbers on the register. To register, log on to www.donotcall.gov.au or call 1300 792 958.  Fax numbers can only be registered online.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority has recently updated its Do Not Call Register consumer brochure. This provides information to consumers about the register, how they can register or re-register their number(s), as well as how to complain about receiving telemarketing calls once they are registered.

If you would like an updated brochure or would like further information about the Do Not Call Register, please phone the Morphett Electorate Office on 8294 6711.
