Airline socks for "Hands On"

socks2In my latest Morphett Matters electorate newsletter, I advertised for spare airline socks for the Rotary Club of Somerton Park’s “Hands On” project where prosthetic hands are assembled for distribution to recipients in Sri Lanka or Cambodia who have lost hands in land mine accidents.

The Club was seeking donations of socks left over from international airline flights as they are perfect to place over the limb prior to fitting the artificial hand - every person fitted with a 'hand' receives a sock to wear under it and airline socks are perfect as they do not have a heel.

To date, 80 pairs of socks have been donated, meaning that 160 people will benefit.

The Rotary Club extends a huge thank you to the people who have brought airline socks into the donation bin at my office in 4 Byron Street, Glenelg.  Collecting the socks are Barbara Humphries and Linda Sweeney from RC of Somerton Park. Please continue to support this great cause by bringing your airline socks to my office.
